Makeshift is the moniker for a series of products made strictly from found yet still functional materials, mainly wood and metal. It denotes that we as a community and a country need to reevaluate how we make things, and shift to using more sustainable techniques. I’ve found that my way of doing that is rescuing curbside items, keeping them far from the landfill, cleaning/cutting/caressing them back into a usable state.
Some call it hoarding, I call it rescue. Resourceful hoarding if you will. There are so many bits and pieces of usable material that we have already put the energy into making - certainly they can be applied to a functional new object.
